Maid Of Honour Speech Tips

I guess it was one of those things but i always knew that when my girlfriend Emma decided to get married i would have to write a Maid of Honour Speech, but i really didn’t know how important that speech was going to be! I left it for weeks  before finally realizing that i was going to have to go ahead and write that speech!

Please take my advice about that, Don’t make the same mistake as i did. Always plan ahead if you can!

When you first start thinking about your maid of honour speech it can seem like a really challenging task. After all, there is already so much going into standing up in front of everyone and watching those vows, standing up again and making a speech is pretty nerve-wracking!

As the date got closer and closer I tried to think of an inspirational, yet charming and hilarious maid of honour speech and it just wasn’t coming to me. So what I eventually decided to do was to sit down and just write some of the thoughts that popped into my head.

Now, believe me when I say that there are more efficient ways to plan a maid of honor toast, but this was great for kick starting my ideas.

At first it was difficult, but when I started using speech prompts and guides I soon started to jot down little bits of information about the groom and the bride. Where they met, how long they’ve been together, some of their most memorable moments – things like that. It really helped me to put into words the story of their relationship and what they’ve been through to get where they are now.

At this stage I think it’s best not to worry about the order or the content of what you’re writing (or any wedding speech jokes!) The biggest block to getting the perfect wedding speech is never actually starting to write it! So by jotting down my thoughts I was already over the first major hurdle for my maid of honour speech.

The hard thing for me was i never had any maid of honour speech examples when i was preparing for the wedding day.

If you are finding it hard to write anything or finding it hard to get any inspiration from somewhere then i really suggest you use some examples here to help you along.

An important point to mention is always avoid drinking alcohol before you do your speech. Saying the wrong thing in a maid of honor wedding toasts could be a disaster ! Me personally i was quite wary of this so i decided to hold of the drink till after the wedding speech, always thinking about my maid of honor duties. The last thing i wanted to do was embarrass myself!

Another important point to mention is avoid talking about past relationships of the couple when doing your maid of honor speeches. There are some maids of honors that do it! I would suggest against it! Believe me , the bride and groom will not appreciate it.

Always try to talk favorably about the bride after all this is the most important day of her life so make her feel special. In my speech i stuck to what the bride would want me to say and it works very well.

I hope you find these quick tips helpful and useful but more importantly put them to use in your maid of honor wedding toasts, they work and they work really well.

Remember to please the crowd and inject some of your personality into it as well, don’t be scared to try something light hearted and funny, you are in control of your maid of honor toasts so enjoy it! : )

Now the first thing you should really think about doing when performing your maid of honour speech is try to thank everybody. Whether that is the bride and groom or anyone who gave you some advice i certainly made sure i thought about them and more importantly thanked them. No to mention the father of the groom wedding speech! He will have something to say about you, positive of course, so make sure you thank him while doing your speech.

Family – Always Mention Them!

Now i know i have told this story many times now but i felt it important to start the maid of honor speech with a story of how the couple met and also how i met the beautiful bride to be. Seriously this will always go down great with everyone, a real crowd pleaser i’m sure you can agree!

I will also try to praise my family and friends. This is a big occasion and a great opportunity for you to show how much these people really mean to you. It doesn’t matter if they didn’t help with the wedding it is still important as they played a big part in your life!

Always do remember though that the wedding day is about the special couple and love for them, it’s also about having your friends and family around you. Try not to be nervous about your maid of honor duties, it won’t take too long to realise that it’s not too tricky to please everybody if your careful.
